About Kian

Dr. Kian Karimi - CosmoFrance's Medical Director

Dr. Kian Karimi is a highly skilled cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgeon, and is double board certified in facial plastic surgery and in head and neck surgery. Originally from Indiana, he completed his undergraduate studies with double degrees in Biochemistry and Spanish, graduating magna cum laude at the age of twenty. Dr. Karimi matriculated into Indiana University School of Medicine. He graduated with highest possible honors with subsequent induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, a distinction reserved for the top 10% of medical students in the country.

Dr. Karimi completed his five-year surgery residency at the University of Florida, trained in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat)-head and neck surgery. He performed over 2000 procedures during his term. During his residency, Dr. Karimi was recognized with numerous awards. He was selected on three separate occasions as Resident Teacher of the Year, by both the University of Florida College of Medicine and by the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Karimi is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery—a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

Following his training, Dr. Karimi was selected from nearly 40 applicants to complete a highly coveted fellowship program in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. Peter Adamson, who formerly served as President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). This fellowship, recognized by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS), provided extensive training in rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and rejuvenation of the aging face through surgical and non-surgical means. Dr. Karimi’s efforts were recognized by the Kris Conrad Merit Award in Facial Plastic Surgery, awarded to one individual per year who demonstrates “outstanding achievements in the field of research, perseverance in attaining the highest level of expertise in the performance of Facial Plastic Surgery”. Dr. Karimi received his board certification in facial plastic surgery by the ABFPRS.

Dr. Karimi is fluent in Spanish and Farsi. He enjoys traveling, physical fitness, playing piano, reading, cooking, and dancing.

Research Interests

Dr. Karimi has authored over ten medical publications in prominent journals. He has recently authored a book chapter on upper facial rejuvenation in Bailey’s Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the textbook used to train most North American physicians in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Dr. Karimi’s primary research efforts focus on exploring ethical considerations in cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery and to propose guidelines for other facial plastic and plastic surgeons. In 2011, Dr. Karimi’s research project titled “Ethical considerations in aesthetic rhinoplasty” was chosen to receive the John Orlando Roe award by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). This award is given to the best clinical paper produced in that year. Additionally, he has been selected to give two presentations at the annual academic meeting sponsored by the AAFPRS in San Francisco in the Fall of 2011.

Dr. Karimi is one of the nation's pioneers in advocating the use of a blunt microcannula for safer and bruiseless injection of facial fillers. He is the national medical director for CosmoFrance, Inc. and teaches doctors and nurses from around the world at his office on a regular basis.


Ultimately, Dr. Karimi believes that the outcome of any consultation, surgical, or non-surgical procedure should be to enhance his patients’ physical and emotional quality of life. He spends adequate time advising his patients of their options in order to create an individualized plan. Integrity and compassion are the center of Dr. Karimi’s practice. “I look forward to spending time with my patients to assess, discuss, and achieve their goals whether they be aesthetic, functional, or a combination of the two.”


Dr. Karimi’s philanthropic efforts began while he was in medical school, working with Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) in a border town between Iran and Afghanistan. As a fourth-year medical student, he joined a medical mission endeavor in Honduras, serving the underprivileged natives.

Later in his final year of residency, Dr. Karimi orchestrated the pro-bono care of a young girl from Haiti with a large disfiguring facial tumor. After completing her surgery, Dr. Karimi organized a multi-disciplinary effort to provide the young girl with the best possible functional and cosmetic outcome. She is currently cancer-free and enjoys a significantly improved quality of life. He considers this one of his greatest achievements.

Dr. Karimi does pro-bono charity care for patients from the Venice Family Clinic, the largest free clinic in the United States, for both otolaryngological problems and facial plastic reconstructive issues.

Dr. Karimi has served as one of the team plastic surgeons for the Los Angeles Kings Hockey organization since 2011.
